Creation
By Nomi Melul Ohad, illustrator of Purple Leaves, Red Cherries and mother of two.
Nine months pregnant with my first child, I found myself working long hours in the design department of a national newspaper.
I couldn’t sustain this lifestyle as a mother. But would I ruin my career if I gave up all that I had created for myself in the industry?
Motherhood came and revealed new emotions in me. I needed to express myself without boundaries. I returned to painting. It was my passion.
I poured onto canvas and wood the words I could not speak.
I worked around my baby, creating a flexible work schedule and opening my own studio.
Ten years on, I expertly juggle my studio time with looking after my children’s needs.
And I know that it is motherhood that freed my creative spirit and allowed me to become the artist I am today.
